Sophie brought in things to make a lava lamp. She taught us about the liquids water and oil and their weight. Oil is lighter than water so it floats on top. When she added the fizzy tablet to the mixture it made gas bubbles of carbon dioxide. We also added some glitter too! Feras baked a cake at home and shared in a movie all about the ingredients and the process to change it from liquid to solid by baking. We decided this change was irreversible. Daniyal presented a slide show about the forms of solids, liquids and gases by using water as an example. We were interested to find out that gas is thinner than air. Rei showed us an experiment using bottles of sprite and different sweets. We had to guess which sweet would make the most gas. Most of us though mentos! It was great fun to watch all the bubbles of sprite overflowing out of the bottle. Surprisingly it was the vitamin sweet that made the most gas bubbles. Viggo shared his research about solids, liquids and gases. We were interested to find out more about fire. Is it a state of matter? What about smoke?
