After reading the Sandwich swap we did an activity together to focus on the line of inquiry ‘communities support each other’ by using our social skills. We had to sort a list of new vocabulary words from the sorry book and their definitions. At first we were not very successful so we stopped and looked at our check lists for good social skills. We could tick caring and helping others, but realised we had missed ‘taking turns’. We tried the activity again and were much more successful when we each took turns! The next day we practiced being open minded risk takers by making and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hummus and pita sandwiches. We wrote respectfully about our opinions of the foods.
