We worked on our estimating and counting skills this week. When we lost count of objects we tried grouping them into tens to make it easier to count and not forget the number we were at.

We began our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry by looking at some photos of children but a paper mask was covering a lot of their facial expressions. We had to guess what emotion they were feeling just by looking at their eyes. At the end of the lesson we took off the masks to reveal the full facial expression. Then it was a lot easier to see what the person was feeling. Next we had a go at sorting out different parts of faces to make a complete picture showing different facial expressions. There were lots of different pieces so this was a challenging activity. However we didn't give up and worked hard to complete 6 different facial expressions. To continue tuning in we used all of our senses in order to experience different emotions and record the names of them. We tasted sour lemon and sweet chocolate, looked at different pictures, listened to different music, felt soft and prickly textures and smelled some garlic and perfume. The faces we made expressed our emotions!
At the beginning of the week we began our Daily 3 reading routines by book shopping for class library books. We learned about 'iPick' in order to help us make good choices of books. I - I Choose, P - Purpose, I - Interest, C - Comprehend, K - Know. We chose books we were interested in and ones we could understand most of the words.
At ISS we have 5 Be's based on the Learner Profile to help us keep safe and work hard. They are Be Principled, Be a Communicator, Be a Thinker, Be Caring and Be Reflective. To help us remember the 5 Be's we made some bumble bees.
We were excited to explore our new campus, so decided to head outside and find where important places were. We found the bathrooms, water fountain, nurse, library and basketball courts. Back in the classroom we spent some time getting to know each other as well as making name tags, birthday beads and masked self portraits. We also enjoyed some socially distanced play inside the class.
