We began our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry by looking at some photos of children but a paper mask was covering a lot of their facial expressions. We had to guess what emotion they were feeling just by looking at their eyes. At the end of the lesson we took off the masks to reveal the full facial expression. Then it was a lot easier to see what the person was feeling. Next we had a go at sorting out different parts of faces to make a complete picture showing different facial expressions. There were lots of different pieces so this was a challenging activity. However we didn't give up and worked hard to complete 6 different facial expressions. To continue tuning in we used all of our senses in order to experience different emotions and record the names of them. We tasted sour lemon and sweet chocolate, looked at different pictures, listened to different music, felt soft and prickly textures and smelled some garlic and perfume. The faces we made expressed our emotions!
