This week we have focused on the line of inquiry 'The states of matter' - specifically gas. We began with some paired research in books to find key words and form a definition. We had fun blowing up balloons and blowing bubbles outside. We noticed some bubbles bounced on the ground, the smaller ones floated higher and some were double doubles stuck together. We saw rainbows in lots of the bubbles too. We are now knowledgeable about the names of some gases. We breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
To develop our research skills of observation further we did an experiment with soda water. First we made still water into soda water in the class with a soda stream machine. Next we looked at, listened to and tasted the soda water and recorded our first observations. Next we made predictions about what would happen to the drink in 2 hours time. Then we repeated the same observations 2 more times through the day. We found out that there were fewer gas bubbles in the drink by the end of the day.
Our final liquid and gas exploration was a bubble painting activity. We blew bubbles into paint and made some lovely bubble painting creations. We also tried blowing along the paper to see what happened.
