To further our 2D shape inquiries this week we firstly did some soring of shapes. We suggested and sorted by colour, the number of sides, the shape name, the number of corners and whether it had straight, curved or both straight and curved edges. Here are some photos to show our results. Last week Imran had wondered if we would be able to cover a whole table with pattern blocks, so we set to work this week on this inquiry. We discovered lots about the properties of shapes along the way such as hexagons were faster and join easily to make a honeycomb pattern, that trapeziums can be made with two rhombus or 3 triangles and that the square pattern blocks were harder to use because they didn’t have diagonal edges and all the other shapes did. By special request we used shaving foam to practice drawing some of the more complex 2D shapes that we have been learning about.
